When they discovered that the downhill stage of the mountain bike world championships was to be held at the Pic du Jer, a 1000m peak near Lourdes, Nick and Kieran decided it would be rude not to go and watch.
They arrived in time to head up the hill to watch the start of the event, as riders hurled themselves off the starting ramp and down the mountainside, round sharp bends, over jumps and down ridiculously steep terrain. There were plenty of thrills and not a few spills as the world’s best jumped, skidded and hurtled their way down the course at breathtaking speed.
Nick and Kieran gradually made their way down the course, stopping at good vantage points and eating their picnic lunch en route before heading home, neither of them wishing to try their hand at this aspect of cycling.

Ils sont arrivés juste à l’heure pour monter à la tête de la colline pour regarder le départ de l’événement, des coureurs se lançaient de la rampe de départ vers une chemin qui descendait la montagne, autour des virages serrés, dessus des tremplins et sur du terrain très raide. Il y avait beaucoup de moments palpitant et pas mal de chutes, quand les coureurs ont tiré leurs vélos sur un chemin vertigineuse, à une vitesse incroyable.
Nick et Kieran ont suivi le cours, s’arrêtant souvent, à de bons points de vue et mangeant leur pique-nique en cours de route, avant de rentrer, ni l’un ni lautre d’entre eux souhaitant essayer cet aspect du cyclisme.
