Nick and Kieran have been working hard to finish the drainage for the new house before winter arrives and should complete the work this week, with a bit of luck. The drains from the new house to the septic tank are done, as are the drains to take rainwater from the roof to the old septic tank, from where we can use it for watering the garden. They’ve filled in the trench and concreted it over, except the area outside the door, where we want to do something a little more interesting than concrete. All that remains to be done is to put in the slotted drainpipe, to take away the run off from the garden.

When not doing that, Nick and I have been continuing to fill and sand the plasterboard  joints in the house; the ground floor is nearly finished now. It’s no wonder it’s taken so long; Joel says he’s never seen such perfection!

I haven’t been idle either; there was a little hole in the gable end wall of the house, which we decided to keep, with a stained glass panel as a feature.  I had to start by sorting my boxful of little pieces of glass into order by colour; the chef in a local restaurant is saving me ice cream tubs to organise them in; then last week I made a stained glass panel to fill the hole. I’m a bit out of practice, but I’m pleased with the result.

Nick et Kieran ont travaillé dur pour terminer le drainage pour la nouvelle maison avant l’arrivée de l’hiver et devraient compléter le travail cette semaine, avec de la chance. Les drains de la nouvelle maison à la fosse septique sont effectuées, ainsi que les drains à prendre l’eau de pluie du toit de l’ancienne fosse, d’où nous pouvons l’utiliser pour l’arrosage du jardin. Ils ont rempli la tranchée et bétonnés au-dessus, à l’exception de la zone à l’extérieur de la porte, où nous voulons faire quelque chose d’un peu plus interessant que le béton. Tout ce qui reste à faire est de mettre le tuyau de drainage à fente, à emporter le ruissellement du jardin.

Je ne suis pas resté inactif non plus; il y avait un petit trou dans le mur de la cuisine dans la nouvelle maison, que nous avons décidé de garder, rempli d’un panneau de vitrail comme une caractéristique. J’ai commencé en triant mon carton de petits morceaux de verre dans l’ordre par la couleur; le chef de cuisine d’un restaurant local me garde des bacs de glaces ou je peux les organiser. Puis, la semaine dernière, j’ai fait un panneau de vitrail pour remplir le trou. Je ne l’ai pas fait dep, mais je suis contente du résultat.
